Best time to visit Barcelona

Spain · 20-year averages

April is the best month in Barcelona, scoring 86 out of 100, with August the weakest at 67. The 19-point spread means timing is worth planning around without being decisive. 8 of the twelve months sit within ten points of the best, so there is more than one right answer.

July is the warmest month at 32 °C and January the coolest at 14.6 °C — a 17.4 °C spread across the year. Around 70 days a year top 30 °C, concentrated in July and the months either side.

Rain is spread evenly through the year — between 5 and 9 wet days in every month — so there is no dry season to aim for and no wet one to dodge. Whatever you plan, the odds of rain are much the same.

The sea is comfortable for swimming in June to October — 25.5 °C at its warmest against 13.2 °C at its coldest. The water peaks a month or two after the air does, so the best swimming falls later in the year than the best weather. Daylight runs from 9.2 hours in winter to 15.1 in summer, enough to notice on a sightseeing itinerary.

The three strongest months are April, May, October. The one to think twice about is August. Each month below has its own page with rainfall reliability, extremes, daylight, sea temperature and crowd levels.
