Best time to visit Chengdu

China · 20-year averages

March is the best month in Chengdu, scoring 84 out of 100, with July the weakest at 40. The 44-point spread means timing is worth planning around without being decisive. 4 of the twelve months sit within ten points of the best, so there is more than one right answer.

July is the warmest month at 32.5 °C and January the coolest at 11.3 °C — a 21.2 °C spread across the year. Around 93 days a year top 30 °C, concentrated in July and the months either side. 23 nights a year dip below freezing.

There is a real wet season here. June to September carry the rain — up to 22 wet days in a month — while January, February, November and December drop as low as 3. That 19-day gap is the biggest single difference between a good month and a bad one in Chengdu, and it moves further than the temperature does.

Daylight runs from 10.2 hours in winter to 14.1 in summer, enough to notice on a sightseeing itinerary.

The three strongest months are March, November, April. The one to think twice about is July. Each month below has its own page with rainfall reliability, extremes, daylight and crowd levels.
