Best time to visit Cusco

Peru · 20-year averages

August is the best month in Cusco, scoring 91 out of 100, with February the weakest at 55. The 36-point spread means timing is worth planning around without being decisive. The good window runs May to September — 5 months within ten points of the best.

September is the warmest month at 18.4 °C and April the coolest at 16.6 °C — a 1.8 °C spread across the year. It never reaches 30 °C in an average year, which takes heat off the list of reasons to avoid any particular month.

There is a real wet season here. January, February, March and December carry the rain — up to 21 wet days in a month — while May to September drop as low as 1. That 20-day gap is the biggest single difference between a good month and a bad one in Cusco, and it moves further than the temperature does.

Daylight barely moves: about 12.9 hours whatever the month, which removes one variable from the decision entirely.

The three strongest months are August, June, July. The one to think twice about is February. Each month below has its own page with rainfall reliability, extremes, daylight and crowd levels.
