Best time to visit Darwin

Australia · 20-year averages

Darwin is a city of two halves. July scores 87 and November scores 41 — a 46-point swing, which is the difference between a holiday and an endurance test. The month you pick matters more here than almost anywhere. The good window runs May to August — 4 months within ten points of the best.

October is the warmest month at 33.1 °C and February the coolest at 29.7 °C — a 3.4 °C spread across the year. 248 days a year top 30 °C, more than a third of the calendar, so heat is the baseline here rather than a season.

There is a real wet season here. January, February, March, November and December carry the rain — up to 29 wet days in a month — while May to September drop as low as 0. That 29-day gap is the biggest single difference between a good month and a bad one in Darwin, and it moves further than the temperature does.

Daylight barely moves: about 12.8 hours whatever the month, which removes one variable from the decision entirely.

The three strongest months are July, June, August. The one to think twice about is November. Each month below has its own page with rainfall reliability, extremes, daylight and crowd levels.
