Best time to visit Salta

Argentina · 20-year averages

Salta is a city of two halves. June scores 98 and December scores 48 — a 50-point swing, which is the difference between a holiday and an endurance test. The month you pick matters more here than almost anywhere. The good window runs May to September — 5 months within ten points of the best.

November is the warmest month at 31.9 °C and July the coolest at 25.4 °C — a 6.5 °C spread across the year. 156 days a year top 30 °C, more than a third of the calendar, so heat is the baseline here rather than a season.

There is a real wet season here. January, February, March and December carry the rain — up to 17 wet days in a month — while May to September drop as low as 1. That 16-day gap is the biggest single difference between a good month and a bad one in Salta, and it moves further than the temperature does.

Daylight runs from 10.6 hours in winter to 13.7 in summer, enough to notice on a sightseeing itinerary.

The three strongest months are June, July, August. The one to think twice about is December. Each month below has its own page with rainfall reliability, extremes, daylight and crowd levels.
