Best time to visit Cancún

Mexico · 20-year averages

February is the best month in Cancún, scoring 85 out of 100, with August the weakest at 49. The 36-point spread means timing is worth planning around without being decisive. 5 of the twelve months sit within ten points of the best, so there is more than one right answer.

August is the warmest month at 30.5 °C and January the coolest at 26.4 °C — a 4.1 °C spread across the year. Around 99 days a year top 30 °C, concentrated in August and the months either side.

There is a real wet season here. August to October carry the rain — up to 24 wet days in a month — while February to April drop as low as 5. That 19-day gap is the biggest single difference between a good month and a bad one in Cancún, and it moves further than the temperature does.

The sea never drops below 25.1 °C, so swimming is on the table year round. Daylight runs from 10.9 hours in winter to 13.4 in summer, enough to notice on a sightseeing itinerary.

The three strongest months are February, March, January. The one to think twice about is August. Each month below has its own page with rainfall reliability, extremes, daylight, sea temperature and crowd levels.
