Weather in Cancún in June

Mexico · 20-year averages, June

Shoulder season. June is shoulder season in Cancún — cheaper, quieter, and a genuine gamble. You should expect rain on 18 days of the month, which is more days wet than dry.

June ranks 10 of 12 — near the bottom of Cancún's year. February is the month that works, and the swing between the two is 36 points, which is a different holiday rather than a slightly better one.

Rain on 18 days, 5 of them heavy. Enough to need a plan B, not enough to need a plan around it. Pack for 29.7 °C days and 26.2 °C nights; the spread matters more here than any single number.

What the averages hide

Averages flatten a month, and this one hides a few things: 12 days top 30 °C — hot spells arrive, but they break; the day barely swings — 3.4 °C between the overnight low and the afternoon high. Across the twenty years measured, the hottest June day reached 33.2 °C and the coldest night fell to 24.2 °C, and the wettest single day dropped 118 mm — roughly 65% of the month's rain in one day.

June is moderately variable: 32 mm in the driest year against 371 mm in the wettest, around an average of 181 mm. Roughly two Junes in three land near that average, and the third does something else entirely.

Wind is light at 8.1 km/h, so the temperature on the page is close to the temperature on your skin, and humidity runs at 81%, high enough to notice on the warm days without dominating them.

How June sits in the year

Temperatures hold steady either side: 30.3 °C in May, 29.7 here, 30.1 in July. Nothing about the timing within the month matters much. Rain has already shifted: 6 days more than May had.

Daylight in June

June is at or near the longest days of Cancún's year: 13.4 hours of daylight, holding steady all month. Evenings are the real gain — dinner outdoors still happens in full light.

Sea temperature

The sea sits at about 27.8 °C in June — warm enough that the water offers no relief from the heat. The sea peaks at 29 °C in August and bottoms out at 25.1 °C — water lags the air by a month or two, which is why the best swimming often comes after the best weather.

How busy it gets

Off season. The genuine off season: cheapest by a distance, with the caveat that some tours and restaurants close entirely.

Crowd levels are estimated from climate desirability and school-holiday calendars, not from visitor numbers.

June in Cancún versus nearby

If Cancún is one option among several, the nearby comparison is worth making. Mérida is the weaker option in June — 3.3 °C warmer, 2 days more rain. Key West is close enough to be a coin toss — within a degree on temperature, 4 days more rain.

So: June is a compromise. February is 33 points better and is what Cancún is actually like at its best — worth moving the trip for if that is possible, and worth adjusting expectations for if it is not.
